I couldn’t even guess how often I’ve crawled into bed in the wee hours of the morning… barely beating the rising sun.

Late night hours are often my most productive. When the house finally goes to sleep, my creative juices start to pump away.

Without the normal interruptions of the day, my mind becomes laser focused on the tasks at hand.

The time slips away so quickly and I’m always shocked to realize it is 3, 4 or 5 o’clock in the morning.

Tomorrow is a new day… it is already here.

I’m going to try and catch a few hours sleep before the house wakes up and we do it all over again.

Do you have a favorite Christmas song?

There are a lot of great songs that I love listening to at Christmas time.

I love Frank Loesser’s 1944 duet, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”. My 8 year old daughter knows all the words to the song… “well, maybe just a cigarette more…”

Another favorite is “Little Drummer Boy” by White Heart. Dude, that Rick Florian can scream! Not bad for a roadie turned lead singer.

Even though I Love The 80′s, you’ve got to admit – that version is good in any decade.

My absolute favorite Christmas Song of all-time is the traditional “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”. If you think about it, the title of the song is something of a conundrum (a riddle whose answer is or involves a pun).

Everyone knows that the name Emmanuel means “God with us”. Yet, the song begs, pleads and implores the maker of the universe to “come”.

Have you ever felt that way too?

Yes, I know that God is with me, but my soul cries out for a deeper, closer, more intimate relationship. I long to know more about the one who knows me best – the one who knit me together in my mother’s womb – the one who ordained all of my days.

In a few minutes I’ll be loading up the family for the annual Christmas service at church. We probably won’t be singing any Christmas songs because the keyboard player (me) and the guitar player aren’t very good… Christmas songs are hard! I’m sure the drum machine could wing it though.

So, I’m going to sign off today’s post with the words to my favorite Christmas song, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”:

The Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals.

Ladies, don’t forget the rummage sale. It’s a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.

Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say ‘Hell’ to someone who doesn’t care much about you.

Don’t let worry kill you off – let the Church help.

Miss Charlene Mason sang ‘I will not pass this way again,’ giving obvious pleasure to the congregation.

For those of you who have children and don’t know it, we have a nursery downstairs.

Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.

The Rector will preach his farewell message after which the choir will sing: ‘Break Forth Into Joy.’

Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.

A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall.. Music will follow.

At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be ‘What Is Hell?’ Come early and listen to our choir practice.

Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.

Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles and other items to be recycled. Proceeds will be used to cripple children.

Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want remembered.

The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility.

Potluck supper Sunday at 5:00 PM – prayer and medication to follow.

The ladies of the Church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon.

This evening at 7 PM there will be a hymn singing in the park across from the Church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin.

Ladies Bible Study will be held Thursday morning at 10 AM. All ladies are invited to lunch in the Fellowship Hall after the B. S. is done.

The pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the congregation would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday.

Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 PM. Please use the back door.

The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare’s Hamlet in the Church basement Friday at 7 PM. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.

Weight Watchers will meet at 7 PM at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use large double door at the side entrance.

The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has been canceled due to a conflict.

Funny Church Bulletins

The wife and I joined LA Fitness last week to start working out again. I haven’t even touched the weights – Right now, I’m just jogging slowly on the treadmill while watching ESPN

I’m impressed with LA Fitness. It has all the equipment you could need and several extra nice features. After you pay the enrollment fee, you can’t beat the monthly premium. Nice kids facility too!

We visited another gym in our area, but it was twice the price. After sitting in the lobby for 45 minutes waiting on our “appointment”, we just got up and left. Sure, they had a nice swimming pool and a rock climbing wall, but I’m not really into all that.

So far, I’ve lost a few pounds and my stress level has gone way down. Sitting in front of the computer all day is great for my SEO and PPC clients because I can take advantage of changes as they happen, but I’ve got to spend a little time at the gym so I can live long enough to see my kids have grown-up kids.

If you’ve got an LA Fitness in your area, I would suggest you at least take a look.
